Proceeds support nature education programs for children and adults.
The plant sale turns 26! Originally spearheaded by the Women's Committee of the Shaker Lakes Regional Nature Center and since 1988 the Friends of Shaker Lakes, the plant sale has seen changes. Although we have featured native plants in the past, this year we are excited to capitalize on our alliance with Andy Pratt at the Cleveland Botanical Gardens (CBG), who helped select beautiful, locally grown natives sure to please and thrive. Look closely to see just where they will fit into your garden! Our selection of annuals and perennials has evolved too! You will find an unusual selection of vibrant, early bloomers that are hearty and drought resistant. We've ventured out into some interesting new species of old reliables, too. Our online Plant Sale order form is now available.
Whether you are looking for bold annual color, herbs to harvest for salads, soups and sauces, flowers for summer cutting or to invest in sustainable gardening, which values nature's role in our urban and suburban settings, we have something for you. In addition to the CBG, we want to acknowledge the Cuyahoga County Extension Service and Nature Center staff for their mutual commitment to educating about and promoting the use of natives. But wait! It doesn't stop there! Check out our Celebrity Planter kits, designs generously donated by some of Cleveland's most sought-after and respected landscape designers. We are thrilled for their support of the Nature Center and awed by their talent.
Finally, we thank our members and the communities at large, for their support of the Nature Center at Shaker Lakes and its endeavor to be a model for urban environmental resources enriching people's lives through education, innovative programs and stewardship.
