SUMMARY:Grow More - Mow Less!
DESCRIPTION:Horticulturalist Kate Small will talk about a nuanced approach to “No Mow May”\, and what we can do in our yards and public spaces to increase habitat and reduce lawn. In America over 40 million acres of land are covered by turf grass\, resulting in a lack of biodiversity; increased air pollution; and fertilizer runoff into our watersheds. Reducing lawns in our parks and yards is an important step towards a healthy ecosystem. Kate will talk about replacing lawn with native shrubs\, sedges\, grasses\, ferns\, and perennials preferred by native insects and birds to increase biodiversity and decrease lawns. \nHosted by Friends of Heights Parks  \nSaturday\, May 4 | 10AM – 12PM | Forest Hills Park Cleveland Heights Community Center  \nFree. SUMMARY:Meditation in Nature
DESCRIPTION:The natural world is the perfect place to nourish your inner world! The sights and sounds naturally steady the mind\, releasing the busy thoughts. This class will help you deepen these experiences and will empower you to draw upon this meditation technique on your own. We will then move outdoors\, weather permitting\, for a walking meditation practice. \nAbout your instructor: \nJudy (Jyoti) Evans\, MD\, RYT-200\, offers personalized yoga instruction through her online platform\, Purna Yoga (www.purnayoga.world) \, and teaches group classes at Lotus Flower Yoga Collective in Cleveland Heights https://lotusflowercle.com/ \nRegistration required. $10 per class or $25 for all three classes. SUMMARY:SUMMER WEDNESDAYS: Folk Garden Groove
DESCRIPTION:July 10: Folk Garden Groove \nExperience the charm of folk melodies intertwining with the rhythmic cadence of nature. \nFolk musicians Paul Kovac’s Big ‘Grass Band: At a point in time\, Bluegrass music was one band’s way (Bill Monroe & his Bluegrass Boys) of trying to make a living\, and since it’s inception\, nearly 70 years ago\, Bluegrass has become an accepted form of uniquely American music\, a style quickly identified by the sound of it’s instrumentation\, singing & songwriting\, has stood the test of time\, and is now considered a traditional music form. \nContainer Garden Workshop – walk-ins welcome |REGISTER \nBring a packed dinner and enjoy 25% ice cream at the Duck Pond Gift Shop.  \nAbout the Band Paul Kovac caught the Bluegrass bug while in his teens\, learning to play banjo\, guitar & mandolin\, and quickly joined bands in an effort to ‘earn-while-you-learn’. Realizing that the older\, first-generation musicians held the keys to the kingdom\, he set out to see\, meet and play with as many as he could. Over the year’s\, Paul’s performed with Bill Monroe\, Chubby Wise\, Mac Wiseman\, Vassar Clements\, and countless others. These experiences have been the bedrock of his Bluegrass foundation.
