DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, August 23\, 10am-4pm \nDoan Brook Watershed Partnership has been hosting our annual event Take to the Lake which was started in 2013 as a memorial to Lester Stumpe\, an avid paddler and early DBWP board member. We typically host the event on the last Saturday in August and this years event details can be found below. Canoeing on the Shaker Lakes was a popular pastime in the first half of the 20th century\, but public boating on the lakes is now less common. Take to the Lake gives participants a chance to resurrect this recreational opportunity for a day\, and gain a new perspective on the lakes and their place in our watershed community. SUMMARY:Sound of Ideas Community Tour
DESCRIPTION:Monday\, August 18th\, 6 – 8PM\nFive years ago Horseshoe Lake was drained with a plan to replace its damaged dam and restore the lake. But the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District argued that keeping the land dry\, and replacing the lake with a park\, was necessary to lower the risk of catastrophic flooding. Residents protested and filed suit. Ultimately\, the park land plan was approved and they were promised that nearby Lower Lake would get its dam replaced and would remain a lake. \nNow the sewer district says new data leads it to also recommend draining Lower Lake for more parkland. Join us for the next “Sound of Ideas Community Tour\,” where we will examine what led the sewer district to change its recommendation\, what options exist for the cities of Shaker Heights and Cleveland Heights\, and how the community is responding to the latest development. \nThe event takes place on Monday\, Aug. 18\, at 6 p.m. at the Nature Center at Shaker Lakes. Enjoy the Nate’s World Trio for a high-energy\, family-friendly performance in the Friends Pavilion featuring a wide-ranging repertoire that spans classical favorites\, funky jazz\, Latin grooves\, and more. You’ll have fun exploring the grounds with a scavenger hunt to find musical performances and hands-on activities scattered throughout the Nature Center. Join us for this unique al fresco adventure for the whole family! \nPARKING: The parking lot will be closed to general public but a few accessible spots are open and visitors should let parking lot monitor at the bottom of the drive know if they require accessible parking. All other attendees can plan to park on South Park Blvd or West Park Blvd.

DESCRIPTION:Guided Bird Walks\nONGOING |Select Wednesdays\, 6:30-8PM | Nature Center \nJune 11\nJuly 9 and 30*\nAug 13 and 27* \nJoin a guided walk through the Shaker Parklands looking and listening for birds. The first walk of each month begins on our ADA accessible boardwalk and moves to dirt trails throughout the Parklands. For all hikes\, meet in the Nature Center parking lot. Binoculars are available to borrow. Rain or shine. *The second walk of each month is fully accessible and includes an ASL interpreter. July 30: ASL interpreter will not be available. Free. $5 suggested donation.
