The Nature Center at Shaker Lakes  (the “Nature Center”) takes your privacy very seriously.  This notice describes the Center’s privacy policy as it relates to www.shakerlakes.org (the “Web site”).  By visiting the Web site, you are accepting the principles described in this Privacy Policy.   If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy, you should not use the Web site.  The Nature Center may revise this privacy policy from time to time without notice.  We will post any changes here, which will be effective immediately upon posting, so be sure to check back periodically.  Your continued use of this Web site after changes have been posted will constitute your acceptance of such changes

What information we collect:  The Nature Center may ask for and collect from you personally identifiable information at various points throughout the Web site.  Depending on the information and/or services you request, you may be asked to provide your name, email address, address, phone number, payment details, and similar information.  Once you provide your personal information, you are not anonymous to the Nature Center

Credit Card Information:  If you choose to provide your credit card information to the Nature Center we will only use that information for the purposes for which it was provided

Other information we collect:  In addition to the information you knowingly provide, the Nature Center also collects the domain names and Internet Protocol (“IP”) addresses of the machines used to access our Web site, as well as Web site usage statistics such as web browser types and page requests. This data is not usually personally identifiable and is used to more efficiently operate the Nature Center’s business, prepare for network load demands, promote our organization, and administer the Web site.

The Nature Center processes your information on servers located in the United States.

Sharing your information:  Subject to your right to opt-out (discussed later in this policy), the Nature Center may share your name and postal address (but not your email address) with organizations that offer products or services that we believe may interest you.  The Nature Center may also share your information with third parties in the following situations:

  • To complete your request, e.g. providing information about a project, product, or service.
  • To outsource one or more of the functions described above.

How we protect information:  The Nature Center attempts to protect against the loss, misuse and alteration of your personal information. Our servers are protected by reasonable physical and electronic security.  All purchases, donations, membership and credit card information are transmitted securely using [Secure Socket Layer (“SSL”)] encryption.  SSL is a proven coding system that lets browsers automatically encrypt data.  We also protect account information by placing it on a secure portion of our Website that is only accessible by specified employees of the Nature Center.  While we strive to protect your information, we cannot warrant the security of such information, as no data transmission over the Internet is 100% secure.

Children: This Website is not directed toward children under 13 years of age nor does the Nature Center knowingly collect information from children under 13.  If you are under age 13, please do not submit any personally identifiable information to the Nature Center.

Your right to opt-out:  The Nature Center may share your name and postal address with organizations that offer products and services that we believe may interest you.  You have the right to opt-out of such information sharing.  The Nature Center may also use your personal information to send you surveys or email messages about Nature Center projects, events, and services.  You may also choose to opt-out of receiving email and information from the Nature Center.  Finally, you may choose to de-activate your Nature Center membership.  To opt-out or change your preferences at any time, click here to send an email to request deactivation of your membership or to make any other change.
