Are you a teen looking for an opportunity to explore your interests, gain real world experience and develop critical skills?

The Nature Center at Shaker Lakes provides volunteer programs for local youth in the following areas: Senior Projects, Outdoor Adventure Camp Youth Assistants and Youth Stewardship Assistants. These groups of volunteers use cooperation, teamwork and problem solving skills to build camaraderie and interpersonal skills. Share your talents in these programs and build your professional skills and resume!

Students are asked to have a teacher or other adult complete a reference form for each volunteer applicant. Referring individuals will find the reference form below. Thank you for your time and insight to help the Nature Center staff make the best possible placement for the individual.


Senior Projects (May-June, school dependent) The Nature Center offers opportunities to seniors from local schools. Seniors will gain hands-on, real-world experiences before they start their college careers. The Nature Center works with each student to provide a professional experience with a 30 hour work week to meet school requirements. Download the Application Packet here.


Outdoor Adventure Camp (OAC) Youth Assistants (June-August) assist with the guidance and education of OAC participants 3-12 years old. Successful candidates are able to participate in hikes, nature related activities, games and crafts while providing an enjoyable experience for campers. The candidate will be enthusiastic, motivated and reliable. Candidate should expect to work in all weather conditions and lift 20 pounds. Youth Stewardship Assistants (June-August) Assist Nature Center land management staff with natural areas projects during the summer. Successful candidates are able to participate actively in land management activities including pulling invasive plants, trail maintenance, trash collection, and learning about plants and ecology. Training and guidance in native plants, management techniques and trail maintenance will be provided. The candidate will be enthusiastic, motivated and reliable. Candidate should expect to work in all weather conditions and lift 20 pounds. Download the Position Description and Expectations document here.
