YOUTH VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

The Nature Center at Shaker Lakes is the place for you! Share your talents in these programs and build your professional skills and resume! Students are asked to have a teacher or other adult complete a reference form for each volunteer applicant.
One Day Volunteer Opportunities (Year-round)

Outdoor Adventure Camp (OAC) Youth Assistants (Spring Break and June-August)
The Nature Center at Shaker Lakes seeks Outdoor Adventure Camp (OAC) Youth Assistants to assist with the supervision and education of OAC participants 3-12 years old. The Nature Center’s mission is to conserve a natural area, connect people with nature and inspire environmental stewardship. A successful candidate will be able to participate in hikes, nature related activities, games and crafts while making camp an enjoyable and positive experience for campers. The assistants are expected to perform at a high level of excellence. OAC Youth Assistants should possess strong problem solving skills and the ability to put the camper first. The candidate will be enthusiastic, motivated and reliable. Candidate should expect to work in all weather conditions. Training sessions and guidance in camp games, activities and camper supervision will be provided.
Youth Stewardship Assistants (June-August)
The Nature Center at Shaker Lakes seeks Youth Stewardship Assistants to assist our land management staff with natural-area projects during the summer. These volunteer assistants are a very important part of our stewardship program.
Responsibilities include pulling invasive plants, trail maintenance, trash collection, and learning about plants and ecology. Youth Stewardship volunteers are expected to participate actively in all land management tasks. Training and guidance in native plants, management techniques and trail maintenance will be provided. Candidate should expect to work in all weather conditions and lift 20 pounds.
