2018 Holiday Gift Guide

What to get? That’s the question on everyone’s mind this time of the year.

As the holiday season approaches, the window to find unique gifts in enough time begins to dwindle. Forget ordering online, running from store to store or purchasing another random stocking stuffer. The shelves have been stocked in our Duck Pond Gift Shop with items for nature lovers of all ages. We’ve got you covered this holiday season with hard-to-find items that give back.

When you purchase an item from our gift shop, you’re not only supporting the Nature Center at Shaker Lakes but you’re also supporting other nonprofit organizations, communities and local individuals. Many of the items selected for our shop are thoughtfully chosen, for they give back to those who created it. Fair Trade, handmade and locally sourced items are the gifts that keep on giving after the holiday season has passed.

Check out our top 5 picks for this year’s gift giving guide:

  • Balsa wood hand-painted ornaments
Made by Nicaraguan artisans, these nature-inspired ornaments will make a beautiful addition to a tree this year.
  • Hot glass figurines and ornaments
Made by Sue Berry in Cleveland’s own Little Italy, her hand-blown glass holders, ornaments, terrariums and birds are a one-of-a-kind gift with a touch of elegance for the nature lover in your life.
  • Winter wear
Colorful hand-woven scarves, hats and gloves from Mayan artisans in Honduras will give back in big ways. Purchasing just one scarf for $20 will help send a child in Honduras to high school.
  • Animal jewelry
Birds, turtles, butterflies and more are beautifully crafted into small dangle earrings for animal lovers. This gift doubles the give back with support to the Nature Center and to F5RS, a local rescue and sanctuary for rabbits.
    $10 per pair
  • Hand-made holiday cards
Handmade by a Nature Center volunteer, Norma Storer, these artful and nature-inspired cards will ‘wow’ whoever is on the receiving end. No attention to detail was spared in creating these and no two cards are alike.
$5 per card. One hundred percent of the proceeds go to the Nature Center.
